The Liberia Seaport Police (LSP) at the National Port Authority (NPA) has successfully apprehended nine individuals involved in an alleged petroleum burglary involving approximately five hundred gallons and eighty-two empty containers.
The operation, led by LSP Director Col. Othello Jean Pierre, occurred during a routine patrol in the early hours of Monday, September 16, at approximately 12:45 AM at the BMC-AMOCO gate.
In a press release issued today, it was revealed that among those arrested are two security personnel, an LSP officer, and a Fire Service officer assigned to the NPA. The seven other suspects are civilians. As a precautionary measure, the two officers have been suspended with immediate effect pending further investigation.
Col. Othello Jean Pierre confirmed that while on patrol with other LSP officers, they intercepted the burglary at the SRIMEX storage facility located within the National Port Authority premises. The nine individuals involved in this illegal operation were apprehended and are currently detained at the Charge of Quarters at the NPA.
According to the release, preliminary investigations are underway by the Corporate Security Bureau at the NPA. Upon completion of these investigations, the suspects will be handed over to the Liberia National Police for further inquiry.
The National Port Authority remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding its integrity and will continue to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that all activities within the port are secure and conducted lawfully.
