    Free Port of Monrovia

    The largest port within the Authority’s network, the Freeport of Monrovia serves as a landlord port with concessions partnerships involving APM Terminals, Firestone, China Union, and others. The harbor at the Freeport of Monrovia is protected by two rock breakwaters, enclosing a basin of 300 hectares of protected water1.

    The Freeport of Monrovia is a landlord port that has concessions partnerships with APM Terminals, Firestone, China Union, and Western Cluster. It is currently the largest port within our authority network. However, it was built originally by the United States Military for strategic purposes during World War II. Currently, the harbor at the Freeport of Monrovia is protected by two rock breakwaters approximately 2,300 meters and 2,200 meters long, enclosing a basin of 300 hectares of protected water. The marginal wharf (main pier) is 600 meters long and capable of berthing 3 to 4 ships, dependent on the vessel size. The Freeport of Monrovia also has three finger piers: Liberia Mining Company (LMC), National Iron Ore Company (NIOC), and Bong Mines Company (BMC) Piers.

    Port of Buchanan

    Located 272 kilometers southeast of Monrovia, the Port of Buchanan is the second-largest port managed by the NPA1.

    The Port of Buchanan is located 272 kilometers southeast of Monrovia and is the second largest port. The harbor is protected by two breakwaters, 1,890m and 590m long. Inside the basin, a 225-meter-long ore loading quay is located adjacent to the commercial loading quay, providing a water depth of 10.5m below the chart datum.

    Situated in the southeastern region of Liberia, approximately 673.6 kilometers from the Freeport of Monrovia, the Port of Greenville is another key facility under the NPA’s management1.

    The Port of Greenville is located in the southeastern region of the country, about 673.6 kilometers from the Freeport of Monrovia. The harbor is protected by a 400m long breakwater and, on its inner side, by two quays. There are two berthing facilities, 70m, and 180m respectively, with an existing depth of 6m below the chart datum.

    The Port was constructed on Rocky Russwurn Island, by connecting the island to the mainland with a causeway, and by constructing a 150m-long breakwater.
